There is something incredibly special about the mountains in spring, especially when the weather refuses to settle. One moment you are standing in soft sunshine, the next you are surrounded by dramatic clouds and rain rolling through the valleys. And honestly? That unpredictability is exactly what made this moody May elopement in the German Alps feel so magical.

For their intimate wedding day, B&M chose the breathtaking Berchtesgaden National Park in southern Germany. Surrounded by rugged mountain peaks and alpine lakes it was the perfect setting for a day that felt emotional, adventurous, and deeply personal.

What made this day even more special was that the two were also expecting their first child together. Their entire elopement carried this beautiful feeling of slowing down, being present, and fully soaking in this season of their lives together.

Getting Ready in Berchtesgaden

The morning began quietly, with both of them getting ready separately while rain clouds slowly moved through the valley outside. There was no stress, no rushing from one thing to the next, just a calm and intentional start to the day.

One of the things we always tell our couples is that mountain weather is constantly changing. And this day was the perfect example of that. While it rained throughout the day, the weather shifted incredibly quickly: between the rain showers we had dry moments, glowing light, and even occasional sunshine breaking through the clouds.

An Emotional First Look by the Lake

For their first look, we headed to a beautiful mountain lake. The atmosphere there felt incredibly peaceful: fog drifting across the water and the mountains disappearing in and out of the clouds. Because of the unstable weather forecast they had the entire lake for themselves!

Seeing each other for the first time was emotional enough already, but exchanging their private vows there made the moment even more intimate. Standing by the lake with nobody else around, they shared promises about not only marriage, but also about the new chapter of becoming parents together.

After the lake, we took the gondola up into the mountains where their ceremony with close family was planned.

While it had been raining down in the valley, the colder temperatures higher up had transformed the rain into snow. Within minutes, the scenery completely changed and we were in winter wonderland.

The visibility changed almost every five minutes. One moment we could see endless mountain views, the next we could barely see anything at all.

But instead of being disappointed, the couple fully leaned into the adventure. And honestly, those are often the days that end up feeling the most unforgettable.

An Intimate Ceremony Surrounded by Family

Their ceremony took place high up in the mountains with only their closest family present. The setting felt incredibly intimate and emotional, surrounded by snow-covered peaks, shifting clouds, and the raw beauty of the Alps.

To end the day, the couple gathered with their family for a relaxed dinner at a lakeside restaurant. After a day filled with changing weather, emotions, adventure, and unforgettable views, it was the perfect way to slow everything down again and simply enjoy being together.
